Among all the bad news, there was one small good-news story in the Pioneer Press today. (Here's a longer version from the Grand Rapids Herald Review.)
Northern Minnesota's Blandin Foundation is providing a $1.575 million grant to help launch a new food co-op in downtown Grand Rapids, Minnesota. This will be a full-service, community-owned grocery store.
The co-op has been in the works for 10 years and has 1,200 member, with $1 million already committed from other sources, including memberships. The foundation grant means they should be able to get the store open by 2027.
Go co-op!
