Finally Understanding

I'm going to a People's March today; I may have a post about it tomorrow if my frozen hands allow me to take some photos. (Temperatures here took a dip overnight, so it will be about 8° ambient during the rally time.)

But I wanted to comment on something John Scalzi said in his brief What I'm Expecting from the New Administration post. After stating the obviously bad nature of what's to come fairly briefly, he ended with this:

Anyway, the next four years at least are probably gonna suck real bad, and even in the best case scenario we’re likely going to spend all the rest of the time I’m alive recovering from it.

(At least he qualified it with "in the best case scenario.")

One of the things that I've finally begun to understand, after years of denial, is that the part about being allowed to recover from the damage wrought by Republican administrations in any sustained way is just... not true.

American voters as a group have shown they are mentally unable to realize we can't switch back and forth between people who want to wreck government and people who want to run it.

And we all suffer because of it.
