Those Third Floor People Have All the Fun

It almost always pays to look up.

The other day I was in a part of Saint Paul that dates back a bit farther than my part of town. It's one of the areas that could pass for somewhere on the East Coast if you don't look too hard. As I went by a twin set of brick sixplexes, I realized they had been joined by a skyway connector at some point:

It was done a long time ago, it seems, given the iron railing. My viewing angle was bad, so I crossed the street to see what that space might be used for:

And sure enough, not only is it patio space in the front for the two adjacent units — they also each have a three-season porch or solarium or something in the back. It also looks as though the first floor units have something going on behind the center fence. 

It's only the second floor people who lose out.
