Yesterday I learned that John Quincy Adams was the first president or former president of the U.S. to be photographed.
It happened in 1843:
This daguerreotype was taken by Philip Haas about five years before Adams's death, during the time he was serving in the House of Representatives.
While reading about Adams, I learned that he spoke eight languages, and that he was the only president who has ever spoken Russian.
