I had extra appreciation for today's The Other Ones cartoon.
Awareness of the problems with transnational adoption has increased in recent years, but my sense is that it's still seen as a general good, and even worse, it's still all too often assumed that adoptees should be grateful.
At this point, there are many resources available to counter or at least complicate both ideas, most created by adult adoptees themselves. But even the simple point of realizing that transnational adoptees are immigrants can be a startling moment.
Seeing it in a cartoon makes it a little easier.
