Evie!

I drove an Evie today for the second time.

These Chevy Bolts (all-electric) are owned by the cities of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, and administered by the local nonprofit HOURCAR. It's real car-sharing (unlike the "sharing economy" of Uber and Lyft).

The electricity for Evie cars comes from solar and wind, and they're charged at on-street spots called EV Spots. Each spot has two chargers for Evie cars and two for private car charging, so the system is also building public charging infrastructure.

Importantly, Evie cars can be left anywhere in a legal street parking spot within a defined "home" area, rather than having to be in a few specific parking spots. That's a big deal for me, because the regular HOURCAR spots are too far from my house to make a lot of sense, while the Evie cars are pretty likely to be somewhere in walking range.

What we need now is even more Evie cars and a wider home area. It's important for users to be able to know that a car will be available somewhere fairly nearby when you need one, and that you can go somewhere else that's also in the home area so you can end your trip (and therefore save money on the rental), then easily find another car nearby for your return.

I've done that twice so far and it has worked out fine. Once, the car I had driven over was still in the same spot; the other time it wasn't, but another car was a block away. You find the cars using an app on your phone. The app works great!

Now I have to figure out how to get the left side-view mirror to adjust. After that, I'm all set.
