Malvina Reynolds—Bring Flowers

I only know Malvina Reynolds because of her song "Little Boxes," and I wouldn't know that if it weren't for Pete Seeger. It was a radicalizing song for me at some point in my life, making me realize that suburbia existed. (Though the Monkees' song "Another Pleasant Valley Sunday" was probably my first encounter with that aspect of reality.)

So it was a pleasant surprise to hear another one of Reynolds's songs, "Send Flowers," sung at this pub singalong:

Great rhymes in there, Malvina. And a bracingly honest message, too.

Looking at her Wikipedia page, I have since learned Malvina Reynolds came to song-writing relatively late in life, and wrote "Little Boxes" when she was 62 years old. It doesn't mention when she wrote "Send Flowers," but given the lyrics, I imagine it was probably created later in her life than that.

I’ve always liked this one, from Pete Seeger’s Rainbow Quest: “No Hole in My Head.”
