What Does It Take to Put a Ripe Banana in the Grocery Store?

Next time you go to the grocery store and there aren't any bananas in perfectly ripe condition, remember this, the complete story of how long it takes a banana to get to the place and time where a U.S. citizen would want to eat it.

Imagine the scale of the "farming," and infrastructure needed to manage and move just this one type of fruit. A lot of food gets thrown out along the latter parts of this path, just so you can have that ripe banana when you want it.
