Hopper's Cat

If you're in the area, make sure you see the exhibit of Edward Hopper's drawings and paintings at the Walker Art Center. He never exhibited his drawings, considering them private working documents, and so seeing them alongside the paintings that resulted is a revelation.

They also have on display the handwritten letter Hopper sent to the Walker after they purchased his paining The Office at Night, plus the ledger kept by his wife, Josephine Hopper, which describes the purchase. It's pretty clear that he owed his success in the business of art to her, by the way.

Here's one drawing from the show that was different than the others, though. Titled "Perkins Youngboy Dos Passos," it's a series of sketches of the Hoppers' cat.

A cat with a great name. (John Dos Passos was their neighbor on Cape Cod.)
