You can home in on a target.
You can hone a knife, and metaphorically, you can hone your skills.
But I guess it's news to the copy editors at the Pioneer Press that you can't hone a target:
While it's likely we've gotten to the point where "hone in on" has become more common than the correct "home in on," can I please hold out for not extending the error to honing targets?
What would a honed target look like, anyway? Would it be pointy and sharp instead of circular?
