I hate to say it, but I was not surprised to learn from Leah McElrath today that Trump is selling “Trump 250” merchandise. I will not bruise your eyes with the image she shared.
He's branding the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence / founding of this country as being all about him. Once again, we're in a moment where I just blink and wonder what alternate joke reality I'm living in.
But here we are.
I think this calls for ignoring this anniversary, unfortunately. Who cares that a document was signed in 1776, anyway? After all, they had to fight a war for another seven years to make it stick.
Let's celebrate winning the final battle at Yorktown (October 1781), or the signing of the Treaty of Paris (September 1783). At one of those points, we'll be free of this fascist buffoon, and (I hope) will have defeated his theocratic, white supremacist cult.
That will be something to celebrate.
