Two years ago, Saint Paul unveiled a small bronze statue of local Olympic gold metal-winner Sunisa Lee. It was located in the park around Lake Phalen on the city's East Side, which is Lee's home area.
It was a big deal, and a great honor. The statue was created by Hmong sculptor Seexeng Lee, who is part of Suni Lee's extended clan.
The sculpture was stolen a few days ago. The base was recovered from the nearby lake, but the bronze itself is still missing. It's a terrible, shameful thing.
So when I saw a photo of this sculpture, which is in Indianapolis, posted on John Scalzi's blog, I thought, why doesn't anyone steal that piece of dreck instead?
Losing that misbegotten piece would improve the world, if anything, instead of making it worse.
