As an aside to the commotion over Episcopal Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde preaching compassion and kindness to Trump and Vance yesterday, I feel a need to comment on this. It's a screen snapshot from the Twitter cesspool:
The person who posted it to BlueSky said about it,
Obviously everyone [talking] in this Tweet is scum and an antichrist but "lesbyterian" is A) really funny when talking about a married, heterosexual BISHOP and B) fighting words
And sure, both a and b are true. But there are other things that are also disturbing and true about it.
- Casually calling a woman a witch when you don't seem far-removed from people who burn witches is more than a bit threatening.
- Assuming any woman who doesn't present in a stereotypical Fox News feminine manner is a lesbian (or trans) is the obvious intention behind all the Right's gender binarism and transphobia. In the Trump new world order, only fembots will be safe to appear in public (except, of course, they won't be safe from sexual harassment, either).
- Taking the mainline churches back by force in the "glorious future [that] awaits" is straight up fascism.
The Right wants to roll back at least the 20th century, and probably a few more for good measure.
