And Now a Pause to Hear the Ocean

Now that it's Election Day Eve, here's something I've been saving.

While I learned a fairly long time ago that the scallops some humans eat come from the sea shells called scallops (which is obvious in retrospect), I had no idea how they live within the shells until I saw this on Twitter, which shows how scallops move across the sea floor.

Other people in the thread responded with additional facts I never knew:

They spit jets of water and have bright blue eyes. Makes for very thrilling water fights in marine biology labs.

My dad had a huge fish tank at our house in Antigua. It was the entire back wall of the dining room. My dad used to catch fish and put them in it. One day he added a gorgeous scallop. In the morning it was the only thing left. It cruised around and ate all night.

Here's a photo another commenter posted:

I had no idea.... The world is a startling and mysterious place. I love it here.
