Can You Dig It?

The spray-painted street markings made by Public Works and utility companies tend to be obscure. They use colors to signify various types of underground infrastructure, and coded marking shapes. Downtown Saint Paul, I always think, is in a constant state of red, blue, and yellow official graffiti on the sidewalks and streets, uglifying the whole place.

So I was surprised to see this completely intelligible bit of painted direction on Grand Avenue yesterday:

Although at first I mistook the "g" for an "s" and thought it said "Dis," I quickly realized it was the more contextually coherent command to "Dig."
