In a Few Words

I just heard Timothy Snyder, author of On Tyranny, say that "The 20th century really should have been Germany's century, but some people made some mistakes at a critical time and it wasn't. Instead, what is Germany remembered for? It's remembered for the Nazis.

"Lots of things are possible that don't seem possible," he said.

He goes on to say that the 21st century, structurally, should be the United States' century, but "we still can choose to blow it." Some people do bad things, and other people don't care about it enough to stop them.

"The future is open in a good sense and in a bad sense."

Snyder was on MSNBC's Alex Wagner Tonight (hosted by Ali Velshi) January 5.
