Now that it's finally cold enough to be called winter, here's a tweet I saw a few days ago from someone named Susie Dent that I've been saving to share:
For anyone who hasn’t heard it, to ‘hurkle-durkle,’ from 19th-century Scots, is to linger under the covers of a warm bed long after it’s time to get up.
After I retired, I've found the urge to linger under the covers in the morning pretty irresistible, especially when I have the colder temperature in my bedroom as an excuse. I didn't know there was a word for it until now, though.
Does that mean I have an excuse for the ages?
