423 PPM

Yesterday, NOAA announced:

Carbon dioxide levels measured at NOAA’s Mauna Loa Atmospheric Baseline Observatory peaked at 423 parts per million in May, continuing a steady climb further into territory not seen for millions of years.

Millions of years.

According to the NOAA greenhouse gas monitoring group leader, who was quoted in the AP story (which appeared at the bottom of page 2 of my local newspaper, ho hum):

"Not only is CO2 continuing to increase despite efforts to start reducing emissions, but it's increasing faster than it was 10 or 20 years ago."

Emissions used to increase by maybe 1 part per million per year, but now they are increasing at twice and even three times that rate, depending on whether there is an El Niño, [he] said.

This news comes as the East Coast is getting to experience the effect of nearby wildfires for what I think is the first time. They don't seem to like it much.

Who will stop these criminal corporations, and the juggernaut of DOTs and the asphalt industry that keeps us burning fossil fuels even though we know we need to stop?
