The Uses of Snow

I mentioned a few days ago that we had some snow here. It wasn't Buffalo levels, but it came close to our top 10 all-time list, and it was heavy and wet to boot.

It has been interesting to see what people have done with it, so it seems a few pictures are in order.

First, there's just the way it stuck to the trees. This photo was taken during a break when was still falling:

Now, even though it's been days since it finished, there's still snow stuck on trees everywhere. The streets look different but the trees don't, which is pretty nice.

Then there's this, one of the largest snow people I've ever seen made by nonprofessionals:

For scale, you have to realize that hat is a full-size garbage can. (The nose is a beer bottle. Sam Adams.)

Then there are the people who make things out of snow mounds. Some friends of mine made a snow cave in their yard and slept in it overnight. They sculpted the roof from the inside, embedding sticks into the outside of the mound to judge the thickness as they hollowed it out:

They report that it was 32° in the morning, while it was 8° outside when they knocked out the snow door.

Elsewhere, others had turned a smaller but still significant snow pile into a snow monster:

Watch out for the Abominable!
