I've been getting some holiday cards, as one does at this time of year. I just have to share the kitschiest one:
- Doesn't it make you wonder what happened to Mary and Joseph? Did they go out on a date or something?
- If Santa Claus is a saint in some form or other, then how could he exist when Jesus is still an infant?
- And what is that deer — not native to Palestine as far as I know — doing hanging around the stable?
- Not to mention the implied Christmas trees. Those came from German traditions.
- And of course Jesus is white, which almost goes without saying in this kind of imagery.
Americans are very strange.
