Back during my August road trip, there was one more thing I saw in an antique store that I meant to post here but forgot about. It was this poster:
This was the signature in the upper left corner:
A little searching showed me that the illustrator is Charles Lemmel, 1899–1976. He was French, of course, and there's a good sampling of his work online.
Personally, I like his non-athletically oriented works best:

Strangest of all is this one for some kind of liqueur, featuring Prometheus bound and winking at the viewer as the eagle eats his liver:
I don't know what that's about, though I might be able to hazard a guess, given all the buff young men in some of the images.
