It's almost time for the monthly Twitter round-up here at Daughter Number Three, so I was looking back through the tweets of September, and this one from David Roberts (@drvolts) stood out to me:
Extending equal rights to all US citizens violates the religious beliefs of conservative white Christians. There is no way to square that circle. As a country, we're going to have to choose sooner or later.
In a country where church and state are acknowledged to be separate, and the public sphere (which includes doing business) is under the jurisdiction of the state, I don't think the circle needs to be squared, but that separation has been eroded over the past 40 years. So here we are.
Some people want theocracy. They are not the majority, but they organize as if they are.
