in 1086, the first ever english census of landholders and property was completed. the recorded names of landholders in the original manuscript include:
-Ælfric the pig

-Humphrey Goldenbollocks
-Snot
-Snoterman
-Gyrth
-Robert the bastard

When I first read the list, I assumed these were the men's names and thought, "Those were land-owners, huh!" But commenters on the thread reminded me of how gullible I am, and that instead many were probably Boaty McBoatfacisms or, even more in your mcboatface, examples of Hugh Jass. They were thumbing their noses, or dropping their pants, to the tax collector.
