I started my day (about 36 hours ago, it seems) reading this interview with Masha Gessen on The Ink. It's called "Is this how Russia ends?" and I clicked it because the interviewer, Anand Giridharadas, tweeted it with these words:
This is the conversation about Russia I've been needing ever since this awful war broke out.
Few can explain the present world crisis better than Masha Gessen.
Trust me and read this interview.
I've seen Gessen, a Russian journalist-in-exile and staff writer for the New Yorker, interviewed many times and I know how bracing it can be, so I believed Giridharadas.
He is correct.
