I never heard the term "trash panda" applied to raccoons until some time this year — probably around the time one of the furry creatures climbed a tall building in downtown Saint Paul. (The so-called MPR raccoon was huge local news, but it may not have reached your ears and eyes if you're not in the area.)
Anyway, last night a friend used the term trash panda, and then went on to say that the interweb is like a raccoon: it's cute and friendly-looking, but it digs in your trash, sometimes has rabies, and causes all kinds of problems.
I'm sure the metaphor can fall apart pretty quickly if carried too far, but I like it: the interweb is a trash panda.
