I saw this photo in the Star Tribune a few days ago. Its caption focused on the way this female cardinal, whose feathers fell off, resembles a dinosaur, and that's true:
But the thing I loved was the way you can see the bird's ear, just below her eye. I'm not sure if I ever thought about where birds' ears are, but now I know.
By the way, the bird will grow new feathers on her head.
