Crazy Country

Check out these stats (lacking a Y axis), which I saw on All In with Chris Hayes a few days ago:

This is the context for Minnesota's current legislative discussion about whether to reopen a private prison owned by CCA (funder of ALEC). Many of the people in the small town near the prison are in favor of it because it will create jobs, which perpetuates a cycle of rural dependence on the carceral state. Social justice advocates and -- get this -- the head of Minnesota's corrections agency and many prison guards are against it.

We live in interesting times.

Thanks for posting this and linking to MinnPost. I had missed this discussion. It would be great if Minnesota could show a bit of leadership on reducing incarceration rates and also stopping the privatization of prisons.
