L.K. Hanson, a Symbol of Localness

I love the artist L.K. Hanson and his work in the Monday Star Tribune, as regular readers know.

Today's was particularly appropriate given recent events in our country:

I wonder if Hanson has ever had a showing of his original pieces in a gallery?

I'm glad to have the work of a local artist still featured regularly in my local paper (in addition to their on-staff Pulitzer-prize-winning political cartoonist, Steve Sack). This is the only reason people keep buying newspapers at all: for local content created by locally based talent.

If we want to know about the world or see work by people elsewhere, it's all around us, but the local -- oddly enough -- is what's hard to find.
