A Bookstore Double Feature

The Walker Art Center's artist-designed mini-golf course was booked solid for the next 85 minutes on Friday afternoon. So instead of playing we took a stroll through the sculpture garden, then drove out the back way. This took us near Lake of the Isles and a lot of fancy houses in the Kenwood neighborhood, until I recognized the intersection that's home to Birchbark Books, owned by author Louise Erdrich.

I've only been there a few times, and not in more than 10 years, so it seemed like we were meant to stop. I found copies of all of Alice Munro's short story collections (something I've been planning to read for a while), and also a perfect new bathroom book.

Collected by poet and bookseller Jen Campbell, the book has funny drawings and just enough content for its purpose. So far, I have particularly liked the section on mistaken titles, especially the ones that are like "Louie Louie" misunderstood lyrics:

Do you have Tequila Mockingbird?
Do you have Agatha Christie's Death in Denial?
Do you have any Willa Catheter?
