Minnesota's state government has shut down as of today.
I have nothing to say about this, but I did want to note, in honor of the shutdown, one of the worst haircuts in the history of politics, which belongs to the Speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives, Kurt Zellers:
In case this Pioneer Press photo is too blurry in the print edition, here it is in color from their website:
And just in case you think it was just a bad hair day, here's a screen grab from the Uptake, back in December:
By the way, Zellers has the kind of résumé that is all too common in politics:
- Studied political science in college (and played football)
- Went to work right away in politics, doing communications for our one-term senator, Republican Rod Grams (1994 - 2000)
- Then got a job in communications for the Minnesota House Republican caucus (2000-2003)
- Ran for an open seat in the House and won. Because we have a part-time legislature, at the same time he parlayed his political communications skills into a senior account executive position at a p.r. firm
- Got elected minority leader in 2009, majority leader in 2011

I'll bet he lets his little girl cut it for him. Just shows what a nice daddy he is in spite of his political affiliations.
I'm sorry for your state.
At first I thought it was a hairpiece, but it seems to vary in length. It reminds me of the horribly parted hair you see in elementary-school class pictures.
