For Whom the Bell Suffices

Metal service bell on a counter with a small sign taped on reading ONE DING WILL SUFFICE
I hate ringing bells for service, mostly because I assume the people who are paid to respond to them hate the sound of the bell and the idea of answering to it as if they were some Russian guy's dog.

So this little sign made me feel two things:

  1. Guiltier than ever for ringing it (even just once), and
  2. Vindicated that I was right about how the staff feels about the bell.
Seen at Turn>Style in Roseville.

I can barely bring myself to use these bells (though I see very few of them around here anymore). I search the store first, and then I barely touch the bell so that there is just a pitiful little "ding." The idea of the bell seems useful for a store that has only one or two workers, but the vision of some superior idiot banging on the bell and then being rude about how long it took for the worker to arrive kind of ruins it for me.
