Rosedale, America

Occasionally I am forced by circumstance to visit Rosedale, a somewhat large shopping mall just north of St. Paul. There's always an instance of absurdity or worse waiting to be photographed at Rosedale.

Laserprinted sign on a glass door, reading Say you care with Clinique -- for every consultation today a lipstick will be donated to a local breast cancer support group
On the door of Herberger's department store. It's good to know Clinique cares, isn't it?

Talbots' window reading MISSES PETITES WOMAN
Why is it Misses and Petites (plural) followed by Woman (singular)? Just asking.

Store window with a large sign reading What to CRAVE this season
That's what Americans need, I'm sure you'll agree -- more things to crave. We're so obsessed with self-deprivation and asceticism. (I can't remember what store this was from.)

Sign reading Emergency Exit Only in gold metalic letters, very fancy and hard to read
Yes, when I think of a typeface to communicate urgent information, I always call on University Roman in gold metallic with a black outline.

A gray T-shirt with scrawling lettering that reads A t-shirt can save the world
No, it can't. (Seen at The Gap.)
