Way, way back, growing up in the '60s in a smaller town, the term I learned for whole milk, or homogenized milk was "homo." That's just what non-skim milk was called. In the late '70s, I moved to the big city -- and at a restaurant, out of habit, I asked for "homo" milk. The second I said it, it sounded completely wrong. I was embarrassed. I haven't done that since. Times change. Except in Canada.
I don't remember having a name for types of milk when I was growing up -- except for skim, which was the funny blue stuff that no one drank. It was just milk. So simple.
