Breaking Down the Constitution Every Week

The podcast 99% Invisible spent a year on Robert Caro's The Power Broker, so for a follow-up they wanted something shorter.

Hmm, what could be weighty enough, but also short?

How about the U.S. Constitution? That's the ticket!

The first episode is out, in which Roman Mars talks with co-host for the series, legal scholar Elizabeth Joh and guest Nikole Hannah-Jones about the preamble.

Who does "We the People" include? And why do all those meaningful words about "establishing justice" and so on seem to have no legal meaning to the courts?

I'm looking forward to following this for the rest of the series.

I also learned from this episode that Mars and Joh have another podcast called What Trump Can Teach Us About Con Law. Joh is a professor of law at the University of California-Davis. They're neighbors, it turns out, and he started asking her about all of Trump's misdeeds during the first term. Hence the podcast.
