Secret Police Don't Want to Be Called Secret

The Department of Homeland Security is sad and mad that people are comparing them to the Gestapo:

If you don't want to be compared to the Gestapo, one neat trick is to not engage in a campaign of terror around the country wherein you kidnap people off the streets to slave dungeons in accommodation of an autocratic fascist and his nationalist movement's desire for racial purity.

As many have pointed out, given that ICE frequently obscures their faces/refuses to ID themselves while they’re kidnapping people, I’m honestly surprised assaults are only up 400% (if that stat is real). Assaulting an unidentified kidnapper in the act should be considered a rather common reaction.

The comparison shouldn't be the GeStaPo, which was  concerned with political dissidents. They try to remodel the FBI into that (so far with little success). The SS / Schutzstaffel was the organization that was out in the open and organized the concentration camps.

Someone wrote, though I can't find it now, that the 413% increase (though also most likely a made-up number) would be from a very low starting number, so any amount of actual assaults would look like a large percentage increase.
