What One Worker Did for Her Job

We're having a snow storm as whatever is happening in Washington, D.C. is happening. I'm allowing myself to not know about it, and allowing myself to just feel disgusted for a little while.

Today I saw Jason Kottke's link to this Facebook post by a just-retired federal worker who has spent 20 years in health care fraud enforcement. She wrote that she has investigated cases

where patients were raped in nursing homes and others so neglected that maggots grew in their wounds. Pharmaceutical companies paying kickbacks to doctors to prescribe their drugs, fueling the opioid epidemic. Doctors falsely diagnosed patients with cancer or MS to bill for unnecessary treatment. Pediatric dentists doing medically unnecessary root canals on toddlers – without adequate anesthesia – for profit.

I have relatives who are happy about Trump and Musk's cuts to the federal workforce, and right at the moment I'm very angry at them because they know nothing about how things work or what the government does — and they don't care that they know nothing.
