The Facebook f comes from the typeface Klavika, by Eric Olson of Process Type Foundry, a two-person Minneapolis company. Olson and his partner Nicole Dotin were presented with this 3D version of the logo by Target after it was used at a private event.
Just one of those facts of the modern age that it seems more people should know.
