No Womb, No Rights?

From today's Star Tribune letters, written in response to an op-ed by Katie Pierson called Want Pay Equity? Stand Up!:

EQUAL RIGHTS

Men Do More, Deserve More Than Women

Despite what Katie Pierson says, women don't deserve equal rights. They don't have equal responsibilities.

When young men turn 18, they're required to register for the Selective Service System. If they don't they can be denied student loans and the benefits of other government programs. Until women actually face this kind of horror, they don't deserve equal rights.

Timothy Ross, St. Paul
To which I can imagine writing back:
Women Do More, Deserve More Than Men

Despite what Timothy Ross says, men don't deserve equal rights, let alone more rights than women. They don't have equal responsibilities.

When women reach puberty, they're able to bear children and in so doing carry on the existence of the human race. Until men actually offer up their bodies for this purpose, they don't deserve equal rights.
But I won't, because both arguments are absurd.

Hah! Thanks for taking the time to write your imaginary response. Some days, reading the letters (and the Pioneer Press's Sainted and Tainted) takes forever, because I'm always pausing to think about a response that might move the writer. And then I move on, because...well, you know.
