The Associated Press announced today that it was changing usage from e-mail to email, following its earlier decision to accept website instead of Web site. They have also decided to okay cellphone and smartphone, rather than their two-word forms.
I have a tendency to accept neologisms easily, especially technological ones, so this is a bit of validation for me. I'm not sure when I dropped the hyphen from email... quite a while ago. I still don't like the look of it when it's capitalized, though, as in a title or the beginning of a sentence. Email. Yuck. The "e" seems like it should be lower case.
But I think I'll get over that.
