Stone Soup for International Women's Day

I've been reading Jan Eliot's "Stone Soup" for about 10 years. It's one of a handful I ready every day (many of the others have been mentioned in the See You in the Funny Papers category).

In general, the strip deals with two sisters who live next door to each other. One is a widow with two daughters, who cohouses with her mother (the girls' grandmother). The other was a single mom who has since married the neighbor. There are lots of jokes about teen angst, but just as many about work, relationships, family, growing old and hinky little dogs.

For the past couple of days, Jan has been highlighting International Women's Day...just another thing to love about her and her work. (Click on any of the images to see a larger version.)

Mom tells 9-year-old Alix that Sunday is International Women's Day. Alix thinks there should be cake.

The girls and grandma discuss International Women's Day. Grandma says she'll make cake.

Mom and the girls talk. Mom says I am a mother. You are my children. If I do well, you'll do well. And that is the meaning of international women's day.

Stone Soup is posted daily (in color! no time lag!) here. Read Jan's blog at stonesoupcartoons.com. And she's published seven compilations of the strip over the years, the most recent of which is This Might Not Be Pretty.
