Paying for the Packaging

At the co-op a few days ago, my eye was caught by this sardine packaging:

Unlike Michael Leddy at Orange Crate Art, I'm not one to write about sardines. But these packages made me stop and think about them, which I suppose is the purpose of a good package design.

Then I noticed they were priced about $6.00 more than the brand next to them (about 250% more), and I disregarded the urge.

  1. It’s beautiful packaging. I still haven’t seen them beyond the Internet (blogger Fresca alerted me to them a while ago).

I might be a man of simple tastes, but I’ve tried some very expensive sardines, and they are never good enough/different enough to justify their high price.
