There's a clickbait page on Facebook that shows up in my feed frequently called Maps Porn. There's a BlueSky account called Rose Porn, which shares pictures of roses. Today these reminded me I hate that use of the word "porn," which is everywhere in popular usage and names of things.
I don't remember how long ago it was that this usage started — 30 years, maybe closer to 40 — but I know I hated it as soon as I heard it or read it. It was normalizing the idea of pornography, making it pedestrian.
Which is what has happened, not only because of that use of the word porn, of course, but I'm sure it didn't hurt.
I've never used the word in any positive sense, and I never will, except to repeat a name that exists (as above).
This part of culture change was not one of the good things that happened in the 1980s or 1990s.
