Where the Cymbals Come from

I don't think I've ever mentioned on here that one of the things I did in high school was play percussion in marching and concert band. So I was very interested to see this story about Zildjian cymbals on kottke.org today.

The name is synonymous with cymbals, but I never thought about who it is that makes them. The short answer is: a 400-year-old, family-owned company in Massachusetts, which got its start in Constantinople. Their metallurgy process is closely guarded to this day.

And like (it seems) a lot of other long-time family-owned businesses, their current generation is made up of women.

It's a neat story.
