The Old Jim Crow

I hope you're paying attention and doing what you can about the current attempt by Republicans to end democracy. They've been working on voter suppression for years, but their current work is an order of magnitude or two worse.

Ari Berman's recent article in Mother Jones outlines their latest revival of Jim Crow laws. Chris Hayes tonight gave a incisive rant about the way current Republicans like Mitch McConnell are replicating the duplicitous stance of past white supremacist vote suppressors — the ones like Jesse Helms and James Eastland who claimed they couldn't possibly be doing what they were obviously doing, since the Constitution bars discrimination. Hayes followed that with an interview with scholar Carol Anderson, author of One Person, No Vote.

It's bad for my metaphorical blood pressure (my actual blood pressure remains unaffected, miraculously) but I (we) have to pay attention.
