May You Live in Interesting Times

From UCLA political scientist Miranda Yaver, via Twitter:

You know, I always wanted to know what it would be like to simultaneously experience the Spanish flu, Great Depression, and 1968 mass protests while Andrew Johnson was president.
The commenters follow her pithy brilliance with an argument about whether she should have chosen Andrew Jackson instead, or Richard Nixon. All good choices, but I think she's right that Johnson was worst in toto, because he had no redeeming qualities at all.

Mafia Mulligan is worse than any of them, in my opinion, if only because the power of the presidency has grown since any of their times.
