Last year while attending a funeral in downtown Minneapolis, I saw these books in the "free" pile near the Sunday school area. I've never heard of either one, but I recognize the illustration, design, and typography style:
The type: Microgramma, by the Italian designer Aldo Novarese, the art in sort of a Ben Shahn style. Dramatic color contrast, flush left arrangement.
This art style reminds me of one of my favorite mid-century illustrators, Richard Cuffari. The type is Mistral by French designer Roger Excoffon. Overall, it's a less interesting design than the other book, but I like the orange background.
I didn't bring either one home, except as photos.
