A Couple of Thoughts from Alex Steffen

Alex Steffen has been covering and thinking about climate change for a long time. (He's the person who uses the phrase predatory delay.) Here are a couple of things he's posted just recently:

Within the lifetime of today's kids, we could see 15 to 20 feet of sea-level rise, warns eminent scientist Richard Alley. The costs of that would greatly outweigh the entire value civilization has gained from burning fossil fuels over the last 40 years.

...predatory delay (blocking climate action to maintain short-term profits) not only doesn't benefit the economy, it actually ensures catastrophic economic losses. Delay buys society nothing.
and
Comparatively tiny flows of migrants/ refugees have triggered political chaos. The climate crisis will cause movements of people that likely dwarf anything we've yet seen. The planetary crisis = mutually overlapping + accelerating second-order impacts.
Now I'm off to watch Samantha Bee so I have company while screaming at the news.
