The Hubris of the Present

From the Twitter account Lost in History, here are four French postcards from 1910, depicting life in the year 2000:








These images remind me that we, at any given moment, have just about no idea how to predict the future. The only thing these early 20th century thinkers got right is that police still shoot at fleeing suspects who aren't threatening anyone.

I like to think that our guesses about life 90 years from now would be slightly less off, but that's just hubris about my level of hubris.
