Souvenir Plates of Midway

The Smallest Museum in St. Paul (located in the firehose box just outside the door at Workhorse Coffee at University and Raymond Avenues) is currently exhibiting Rebecca Meszler's Souvenir Plates of Midway:

This is the whole exhibit. The plates are 3–4" wide.

For out-of-towners, Midway is the area of St. Paul that's about midway between downtown Minneapolis and downtown St. Paul. Yes, it's a creative name.

The charm and humor is small in scale, just like the plates.

Meszler's plates remind me of my favorite restroom at the Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan, Wis. Ann Agee's "Sheboygan Men's Room" is all blue-painted ceramic tile (and sinks and toilets) portraying scenes related to water in that city.... the water towers, the car wash, the dam, cars stuck in the snow.

The plates are on view outside Workhorse through the end of November.
