All too often, when designers create materials about or on behalf of minority ethnicities, they resort to visual stereotypes. I see these all the time, so when I see an example that's doesn't do it, I notice.
Such as this poster for an upcoming Arab Film Fest in the Twin Cities:
It's festive, eye-catching, and a bit mysterious -- but it doesn't call upon any stereotypes that I can see.
It does have a bit of an intelligibility problem with the design of the capital F in Film and Fest (which look more like Gs to me), but I was able to figure it out.
Good job, Mizna designer!
